About the Jewelry

Mokume gane A technique borrowed from Japanese metalworking. Thin layers of different colors of clay and sometimes metal leaf are stacked together and then "distressed" with various shaped tools. When thin slices are taken off, they contain unexpected surprises in shape and color.

Canes Long "logs" of clay that carry a pattern the length of them (think of a jelly-roll). Canes may be as simple as a jelly-roll or quite complex, adding many patterns together. When a thin slice is taken off the end, it can be used as a jewelry motif as it is, or applied like a veneer to another shape.

Materials Earwires and necklace clasps are gold filled or sterling silver, and in many cases the other wires used to decorate are also. In cases where a large quantity of wire is used for decoration, I have used Non-Tarnishing Brass (NTB) in order to hold the cost down. Any time a different material is used it will be noted.
